The debut edition of the TCS IT Wiz at Coimbatore, in retrospect, hardly seemed like a debut with teams coming in well prepared and stunning all those gathered with amazing answers to most questions. Over 900 children were part of the prelim that comprised of 20 questions from across the world of IT.

The prelim led to the top six teams, who were:

Kovai Winners 2008

Kovai Champions, St.Judes Boys.

Laidlaw Memorial School, Ooty - M Alagappan & Chingkhomba Chingtham
GD Matric, Coimbatore - Varun S & Karthik G
SBOA Matric & Hr. Sec. School - Karan Saraf & Sibhi Kumaran S
Perks Matric Hr. Sec. School - V Sinan & D Santosh
Satchidananda Vidya, Mettupalayam - Mothil Prabu S & Sai Sri Sathya
St.Judes, Kotagiri - Colin Paul Joy & Harshita Mehta

The final began with quizmaster Pickbrain recognizing the performance of a few teams that narrowly missed the final, including a young team from BVB, Erode that had travelled all the way to be part of the event. As the rounds unfolded, all the teams got into the act and cracked seemingly impossible posers with relative ease.

In the initial rounds of the quiz, Laidlaw built up a good lead to give the impression that they would march home comfortably. However, it was in the third and fourth rounds of the quiz that the team from St.Judes surged ahead with truly remarkable answers and a few passes that they were gifted with. In the final round of the quiz, St.Judes hung on and won the coveted title.

Interestingly, from the duo that represented St.Judes, the young girl (Harshita Mehta) who won the title was the sister of a former TCS IT Wiz champion in 2006.

The guest of honour, IPS officer Seema Agarwal, distributed the prizes, the laptops to the winners and encouraged the kids to enjoy whatever they did.
It sure was a dream debut at Coimbatore and undoubtedly one of the best ways to celebrate Children's Day.
